Every year there are people who criticise the ANZAC Day commemorations, saying it’s wrong to glorify war.
ANZAC Day is for remembering and honouring those who served Australia and New Zealand, their families, and those who support them all. I’d like to say it’s a day for remembering why we shouldn’t go to war, but that message doesn’t seem to be getting through to anyone on either side. Regardless of that, we should support our service personnel and our veterans.
I was lucky to have served in peacetime. The Army Reserve and Royal Australian Air Force I belonged to have transformed into stronger and more advanced forces—because they’ve needed to. Our military personnel need all the support they can get, and I hope you will share with me in showing them the respect they have earned.
Lest we forget.
