Do you want to write and are not sure how to go about it? Have you started writing and would like some tips? Are you thinking about self-publishing?
The Absolutely Alison blog is something I've wanted to do for a while. My writing is about having fun, not conforming to expectations, and I've never made a secret of that. Now I hope to help others who want to write for the pleasure of it, and maybe self-publish down the track.
Along with the blog posts, I will continue to add the the resources page. I hope you find it helpful.
About Absolutely Alison
When I started writing I had absolutely no plan to publish any of my work. It was purely for enjoyment and to put the story blossoming out of control in my head on paper (or computer screen, to be more accurate). I told a friend about my writing and she asked if she could read some of it. This friend being a trustworthy person, I agreed. She loved the story and it was only then that I began to think of publishing.
Since then I have published several books and have spent quite a bit of time working out how I define success with my writing. So many writers want a traditional publishing contract or a certain amount of sales. When I worked out the nuts and bolts of my 'wants', all I wanted to do was write. Now I want to encourage those who also write for the pleasure of it, or those who want to write and are not sure how to start. So many writers sites assume the writer will publish in some way, but there are no such expectations here.
I have always wanted to write a blog about writing, but I don't have the credibility of formal qualifications or numerous books sales. What I do have is loads of experience doing things my way and enjoying every second of my writing and publishing. Absolutely Alison is for those who want to write only for themselves or to publish with no concerns about earning loads of money. In other words, it's about writing for fun.
The blog is aimed at providing general and basic level advice to help with writing, planning, inspiration, general writing type information, and self-publishing. It will deliberately aim to take the pressure out of writing and to promote the joy.
