When I write about a place a never been, it takes a lot of research to even get close to the real thing. The information can be old and outdated, or even plain wrong. It can lead to errors in the details. It can also lead to something else.
A burning desire to see these places for myself.
It was this desire that sent me into a travel agents office earlier this year to pick up some brochures. It was the same desire that had hubby and I return to that travel agent yesterday and book our tickets to the USA!
I’m still waiting for the realisation to hit – I’m going to see the places I’ve written about! Okay, so the Marines won’t let me onto Quantico and I doubt the US Navy would welcome me onto Submarine Base New London, but we’re going to many other locations. There is a museum at one end of the Subbase, which we will visit, and we’ll be spending some time in Washington DC. We’re also going to a dude ranch in Texas, which will be a lot of fun!
I’ll be sharing more details as the trip gets closer, particularly the book related things.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this, it’s if you want something badly enough you’ll find a way to make it happen!
What's it about?
My thoughts on writing, the research I do, and what interests and inspires me as a writer.
