I’ll start off by admitting right away that I’m a fan of Bear Grylls. I’ve watched many of his shows, and read his book ‘Mud, Sweat and Tears’. I’ll also admit that I won this book in a competition, but I would have bought it anyway. And it lived up to every one of my high expectations!
Ghost Flight is the story of Will, an ex-soldier who is given the job of leading a desperate race to the remains of a mystery plane hidden deep in the Amazon jungle. He is accompanied by a team of ex-military personnel from various countries, plus a two man film crew to capture it all. Still grieving from the mysterious kidnapping and loss of his wife and child, and the recent murder of a close friend, Will has to try to keep the team together, and alive.
Right from the beginning I had real trouble putting this book down. It grabbed me and didn’t let go, right up to the twist at the end. Bear uses his experiences as a soldier and adventurer to give this story fantastic detail and suspense, and because of who the author is, you know the events that unfold are all plausible. I connected to Will, largely because I could hear the echo of Bear’s voice coming through in the character. I also liked that the main character is, in Aussie-speak, a decent bloke. This book has become a permanent fixture on my book shelves, and I will no doubt read it many times.
If you are like me, and enjoy thrillers and gripping tales of adventure, this book is a must!
My rating: 5/5
