One week to go (plus itinerary!)

Just over one week to go.

It’s hard for me to believe the time is here and I’m about to embark on a wonderful, emotional journey. I’m getting teary thinking about the places we will go and the things I will see.

This whole trip happened because I was so tired of seeing Washington DC from a distance. The places I write about, the places my characters see—the desire to see them in person became too much. The result? My announcement that we were going to find a way to go. And we did! After more than a year of waiting, the dream is about to become reality.

I promised an itinerary, and here it is:

  • We fly in San Francisco, chosen as I have relatives living close by and I wanted to see them. Amongst other things we’ll do an Alcatraz tour (of course) and sight-see around the city.
  • Next stop is Boston. This is more of a stop-on-the-way, but we figured while we were passing through we’d have a look around. And the Cheers Bar is there! Fellow fans of the show will get it. Hubby and I will celebrate our wedding anniversary with dinner at Cheers.
  • After Boston comes…New London! We’ll see the Thames River—and I’m secretly hoping to see a submarine going in or out while we’re there. My birthday will be spent at the Submarine Library and Museum, which is located at one end of Subase New London—the setting for the New London books.
  • After New London is the main item as far as my writing is concerned—Washington DC. We have chosen to stay in a hotel in the suburb where Beth and Warren live. Technically it’s not in DC, it’s in Virginia. DC is just over the Potomac River from where we’re staying, and we’ll be close to the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery.  Things I’ll be seeing are the FBI headquarters, the restaurant where I set a scene from the next-to-be released White Rose book, the location of Warren and Beth’s wedding, and so much more. I know I’ll be emotionally wrung out by the time we leave. It’s become such a special place to me.
  • When we leave DC we’ll be heading to Texas, and a dude ranch outside San Antonio (hubby’s choice). I’m really looking forward to a few days of relaxation, reflection, and also having a good look around a real, working ranch.
  • Then it’s back to San Francisco for a night before we fly home.

Hubby and I have set up a special page on Facebook (Cliffords Gone Travelling) to which we will upload photos daily. I’ll also be posting on my writer Facebook page, and doing blog posts.

All I have to do now is wait, but not for much longer.
