I don't listen to music when I write - I find it distracting. The proverb 'Silence is golden' could have been written for me.
Music has been a huge part of my life though. As a teenager I played the violin as my main instrument, but also playing the viola, 'cello, bagpipes, and piano. My favourite TV show was Countdown and there wasn't anyone in my school who knew more about Duran Duran than I did.
Some authors have playlists that go along with certain books. I don't, but I do have songs that have significant meaning for each story.
Roses (White Rose series - Book 1)
I was well into writing Roses when this song burst out of my little stereo player from a CD of nightcore music my son had loaned me. If you don't know what nightcore is, I suggest you check out some of the music on YouTube - I love it's energy!
There are a couple of lines in this song that encapsulate so much of the romance of the book. I tracked down and bought a copy of the song and listened to it almost daily until the book was complete.
Whispers in the Dark - Skillet
Retribution (White Rose series - Book 2)
I don't have a specific song for this book, mainly because it is a continuation of the White Rose series. When I thought about a song that would reflect a theme in the book, I went for this one below. Retribution is, among other things, about friends who stick together and help each other, and I love this guys voice!
Count on Me - Bruno Mars
There's a scene in this book where James asks Nell to dance with him. This is the song they dance to.
The Way You Look Tonight - Michael Buble
I hope you liked them. Do you think they are appropriate, or nothing like you imagined they would be?
What's it about?
It's about words and my life as a writer. There are also tips for those starting their writing journey, with a focus on self-publishing, and encouragement all round.
