I love action movies. Spies, superheros, police, military - it doesn’t matter to me -if it has action, I can pretty much guarantee I’ll enjoy it.
When the latest Captain America movie opened, I made a date with hubby and went along. Of course, there’s one thing you can always guarantee with a Captain America movie… Stan Lee will be in there somewhere! (You thought I was going to say plenty of action, right?)
Who’s Stan Lee? Stan Lee is a comic book author and former President of Marvel comics. If you’ve seen a movie based on a Marvel comic character, you’ve probably seen Stan Lee in an author cameo role. He's also played himself in The Big Bang Theory, stalked by the character Sheldon, and dropping his usual sarcastic humour around as he goes.
Stan’s not the only author who’s done a cameo by a long way. Here are some others you may, or may not, know about:
These are only a few authors who have made cameo appearances. I always enjoy seeing them pop up, and in Stan’s case with a bit of comedy involved.
I’ve read articles which have concluded that if an author appears in a movie or TV show based on their book, then the reader of the book can be assured the screen version is a good one. I’m not sure about that. Each person has their own vision of the books they read, and there’s no way they are all going to match. I think though, if the author takes part in an adaption, then the reader-turned-watcher can be confident the feel of the book has been respected, and that is all anyone can ask for.
Do you know of any other author cameos, and how do you feel about authors being a part of the movie or show? Does it add to it, or take something away?
What do you think?
